Better Balance Program
Balance is defined as having the ability to maintain the body’s center of mass over its base of support. Better balance improves your quality of life and reduces our risk of injury. Unfortunately, good balance is often taken for granted…until it’s too late. Balance is a multi-factorial phenomenon, and this Balance class is designed to address many of the factors that contribute to good balance.
This in-person class is offered two days per week – Tuesday and Thursday from 8:30am-9:15am. The program will be limited to those individuals who ambulate without any type of assistive device. The sessions are progressive in nature; each class builds on the previous class. Regular attendance is required to achieve optimal benefits and goals.
A simple pre-test will be administered during week one!
Weeks two through ten will feature 18 classes that focus on:
- Foot and ankle mobility
- Proper dynamic warm-up
- Quickness and reaction drills
- Static and dynamic balance drills
- Bodyweight and “banded” strengthening exercises
- Bodyweight “power” movements
- Standing and/or seated core exercises
- Dual tasking which helps to enhance brain plasticity i.e. Motor/cognitive dual tasks
During week ten, we will re-evaluate everyone to access the progress gained during the program. The primary intent is to improve the participant’s physiological well-being, improve balance, while having fun at the same time!
