Baxter Close Summer Sports Camp

Our goal is to build well-rounded athletes. This camp gives campers the opportunity to play a variety of sports in fan, safe environment. Campers will receive technical instruction in each sports and will then experience the sports in a realistic game situation. A healthy snack is provided daily. Campers will swim every morning at our outdoor Water Park! On-site “Field Trips” will come to the branch weekly! Campers will be swim tested every Monday/Tuesday morning. If your child fails the swim test, they will need to wear a life jacket the entire week while in the pool (this may restrict them from participating in some games.) Space is limited.

AGES: 6-11 (must have completed kindergarten)
WEEKS: June 3 – August 2
WEEKLY FEES: $195 Member / $275 Non-Member
TIME: 7:00am – 6:00pm
Prorated Weeks: Week 5 (3 Days of camp)

7am-9am is Drop off and 4pm-6pm is pick up time. You will drop off and pick up your child in the front of the building on the water park side (follow signs). Person picking up must stay in vehicle and provide government issued ID (work ID’s are UNACCEPTABLE)

What to bring to camp:

Swimsuit/Towel, Water Bottle, Comfortable play clothes, Sunscreen, tennis shoes and a healthy lunch. No Valuables (Card games, video games, etc.)

  • January 10 – All YMCA members
  • January 17 – General Public

You may reserve a space for your child by paying the full camp fee or with a non-refundable $25 deposit for each week of camp. The remainder of the payment is due the Saturday prior to the week of camp and will automatically be charged to the credit/debit card on file.

Change Fee: If you have to change one week to another, your deposit will transfer to the new week; however a $10 change fee will apply to each change made to the camper’s registered schedule.

*Income-based financial assistance is available for families in need. Assistance is granted on the basis of financial need. We use a sliding fee scale based on total household income.

Angie Smith

Angie Smith, is a gifted writer, encourager and loving mother of four. Together with her husband, former NFL player Steve Smith, they established The Steve Smith Family Foundation, which is dedicated to providing hope and inspiration to those in need while advancing causes  close to the family’s heart – Promoting family health & wellness as well as the awareness and prevention of domestic violence.

In 2022, The Steve Smith Foundation and Mecklenburg County partnered to create Charlotte’s first behavioral health urgent care, a 24/7, 365 urgent care facility dedicated to mental health and substance abuse needs.

Angie’s commitment to her family, transparency and unselfishness, by putting other’s needs before her own, is an inspiration to all of us!

Alan Tyson

Alan Tyson is the President Architech Sports and Physical Therapy. He was the former Vice President of Sports Performance and Rehabilitation for OrthoCarolina. He is a physical therapist board certified as a sports clinical specialist, a certified athletic trainer and certified strength and conditioning specialist. He has worked with the Charlotte Knights (AAA affiliate of the Chicago White Sox) and continues to serve as a consultant to the team. Alan is also a consultant with the Carolina Panthers and Charlotte Eagles.

Alan has spoken regionally and nationally on various training topics including the foot and ankle, spine care, hip and knee rehabilitation, and he has developed two continuing education courses on the shoulder. He has written 3 books and developed specific training programs for the female athlete, the baseball pitcher, and for football players preparing for the NFL combines. Alan is also an associate editor of the National Strength and Conditioning Journal. He co-hosted a weekly radio show “Health Headlines” on 1110AM WBT with Stacey Sims and Dr. Russ Greenfield for 3 years.

Antoinette Johnson
