Private and Semi-Private Swim Lesson Request Application
BUILDING STRONG AND CONFIDENT SWIMMERS
Unfortunately, many kids and adults don’t have basic swimming skills, and many times children are left unsupervised around swimming pools and bodies of water. Drowning is the second-leading cause of accidental death for children ages 1 to 14, claiming the lives of three children every day. At the Y, we believe a child’s safety in and around water should never be left to chance.
As the program continues to grow, we are determined to reach participants who are at the greatest risk. Our goal is to assist in preventing youth drowning in our community.
Our main focus and priority for scheduling private lessons is (but is not limited to) participants who are members of the YMCA of Upper Palmetto and:
- Are in Stages 1-3: 1 (Water Acclimation), 2 (Water Movement), 3 (Water Stamina). These stages are known as our drowning prevention stages and include the safety around water program. At the end of Stage 3, participants are able to pass a swim test and the risk of drowning is reduced. The goals of this program are to build essential safety skills and topics.
- Adaptive swim lessons: The Y’s Adaptive swim programs are designed to give children with diverse abilities opportunities to participate in swim lessons while focusing on developing both physical and social skills that will last a lifetime. We emphasize each person’s abilities and individuality, and specifically design a swim program to foster independence while providing positive recreational and educational experiences for our participants.
