Reading Giraffe Camp
Reading Giraffe Camp (ages 3-7) 9am-12pm
Developed by local award-winning children’s author (The Longest Letsgoboy, Does A Bulldozer Have a Butt, I Made Those Ants Some Underpants) and educator Derick Wilder, Reading Giraffe is the place where books run wild! Our mission is to create lifelong readers by immersing children in picture books, turning tales into interactive, exciting adventures in learning. Our curriculum includes a host of creative, fun children’s stories, from the classics to present-day reads to Derick’s own works.
We lead read-alongs, reading with (not to) campers and encouraging them to dive into each story. Utilizing The Whole Book Approach, we examine the picture book art and include spelling exercises, vocabulary words, and creative projects. In addition, campers participate in mini-plays, nature walk-n-reads, and fun games, all based on the storylines and characters we read about. Campers should bring a water bottle and a healthy snack, and wear sneakers, sunscreen, and a hat, as each day includes outdoor time and fun activities that get the campers moving.
